Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League

Thank you Derek.

It was announced today that Kinderlsey product and Klipper Alum Derek Dorsett has accepted the recommendation of his doctor and will be retiring from professional hockey.

For 515 NHL, 71 AHL, 180 WHL, and 30 SJHL games Derek played a gritty, all-out style that led to winning wherever he went. An RBC Cup appearance, Memorial Cup appearance, and AHL/NHL Playoff success with the Syracuse Crunch, Columbus Blue Jackets, New York Rangers, and Vancouver Canucks all reference the value Derek brought on the ice and in the room.

Derek and his family are fantastic supporters of sport and recreation in the West Central community and have contributed to countless fundraisers, charities, and community projects; many of which have gone un-announced. The Dorsett’s quietly and often without provocation donate their time and resources and for that we should all be more thankful.

Thank you Derek for giving Kindersley kids a local hero, for inspiring SJHL players to make their dreams come true, and for making the coffee crew conversations brim with pride on mornings after your games.

We appreciate you. We support you. And we wish you the very best moving forward.
