KIPPERS CLINCH

Written by Cooper Douglas Monday, Mar 11 2024, 7:00 AM

The Kindersley Jr. Klippers may not have been on the ice since March 2, but the team has seen a whole lot of action in the time since.

Last Monday the Klippers were given two SJHL award nominations, that you can read about below, as that was only the start of a week full of good news.

That announcement on Monday was followed up by more news inside the locker room on Thursday. The Klippers were happy to announce that defenseman Nathan DeGraves had committed to the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings program.

The 20-year-old has played in 91 games as Klipper over three seasons. With two games left in the season, DeGraves has 52 total points in a Klippers uniform.

“RDC is getting a great all-around defenseman who has the ability to play a prominent role right away. Nathan will have a successful career as a King. As an organization, we would like to say congratulations and wish him well.” said Klippers Head Coach and GM Clayton Jardine.

While the Klippers and DeGraves celebrated that news, the team certainly had the rest of their focus to the week of SJHL play. The Klippers entered the week with the chance to clinch a playoff spot before their next action with the Battlefords March 15 and 16, and on Friday night received the news that they would in fact be heading back to the SJHL playoffs for the first time since 2019.

The Klippers can rest easy knowing they have their spot secured in the postseason, but there is still work to do ahead of the upcoming season-ending home-and-home against the rival Battlefords North Stars.

The Klippers will be on the road Friday night for their second-last game of the season, and then the squads will finish off the regular season in Kindersley on Saturday night, both games starting at 7:30.
