A new rivalry was formed over the weekend as the SJHL’s newest member, the Warman Wolverines, faced off against the Klippers. Game 1 on Friday was an action-packed, back-and-forth game. Kindersley would get the lead early thanks to Jaxon Herchak, who scored his first of the season on the power play. Warman would go on to score two goals to finish off the first. The Klips would score 41 seconds into the second after Kindersley native Ethan Sautner found the back of the net to tie it early. Brock Evans would score later in the second to make it 3-2 Klippers, but Warman would ultimately tie it up again going into the third period.
Warman would end up tying the game once more at the start of the third, but it wouldn’t take long for the Klippers to take the lead back after rookie Cooper Flath netted his second goal of the year following a Warman misplay. Three minutes later, Mason Eggen would find the back of the net to give the Klippers a 5-4 lead, but Warman would not give up, scoring yet again to tie it at 5. With time running out, the game would need overtime. The Klippers fought hard, but ultimately Warman captain Vincent Palmarin found the back of the net and sent Warman home with their first franchise win.
In Game 2, the Klippers headed up to Warman. Rookie Mattias Radke made his SJHL debut and, after a scoreless first period, the lone second-period goal came with five seconds left from Brayden Vandenbilche, who had just returned from injury. He found the back of the net to give Kindersley a 1-0 lead going into the third. Warman would tie it up just over two minutes into the period, but Van Eger scored his second of the season to regain the lead, making it 2-1. Five minutes later, Avery Johnson sealed the deal, making it 3-1 and sending the Klippers home with a big win. Radke put up 44 saves on 45 shots and finished with a .978 save percentage in his SJHL debut.
The Klippers are back in action tonight at 7:30 as they face off against the 5-0 Humboldt Broncos.
