The Klippers headed into their Christmas break on a 3-game win streak, having beaten the Weyburn Red Wings and their rival, the Battlefords North Stars, in back-to-back games. Kindersley extended that streak last night against the Humboldt Broncos in an absolute thriller.
Jacob Strizzi opened the scoring for Humboldt, giving them a 1-0 lead late in the first period. However, Dawson Karol responded just over two minutes later to tie the game, sending it into the second period 1-1.
Michael Dowdall scored the lone goal of the second period, giving Humboldt a 2-1 lead. Early in the third, Dawson Karol netted his second of the game, tying it 2-2. Connor Miller regained the lead for Humboldt with just under 4 minutes left in the game.
With time running out, the Klippers fought hard, and with 26 seconds left in regulation, Zak Anderson tied it up, sending the game into overtime.
In OT, both teams fought extremely hard, but it was the “Flyin’ Hawaiian,” Stein Dostal, who put on a clinic, working tirelessly in the corners and eventually scoring the game-winning goal.
Dawson Karol, Stein Dostal, and Russ Demo each recorded 2 points on the night, while December’s Rookie of the Month, Brett O’Halloran, made 39 saves on 42 shots, posting a .928 save percentage.
The Klippers are back in action this Tuesday, facing the Notre Dame Hounds. Next weekend, they will take on the Nipawin Hawks on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday’s game against Nipawin will have a 4:00 PM puck drop, and after the game, the Klippers will host another “Skate with the Klippers” event, taking place immediately after the game.
