KLIPPERS VS NORTH STARS RIVALRY RAMPS UP.

For those if you in attendance Friday night for the Klippers home tilt vs the Battlefords North Stars you were in for a treat; and not just in the form of a candy bar or tasty treat in your trick-or-treat bag.

Off the ice fans were welcomed to the rink with booths set up for safe and convenient trick-or-treating provided by generous local businesses and organizations. On the ice the visiting North Stars were in for a frightening shock from the 8th place Kindersley Klippers club ready to put an end to an extended losing streak against the SJHL leading and 2nd Nationally Ranked North Stars.

Battleford held a 1-0 lead until the 6:52 mark of the second period when Kindersley’s Eddie May scored on the OSY Rentals powerplay to even the score. An improved effort in the third period propelled the Klippers to 3 unanswered goals from Austin Nault, Cam Shorrock, and Nik Malenica.

With :05 seconds to play in the game Battleford sent an “intriguing” line onto the ice to take the faceoff, after which the intentions were made clear. Instigated by Stars players a line-brawl ensued with the Klippers up 4-1 and the game far out of reach, not exactly the ideal situation for the SJHL looking to improve it’s image in a scene competitive for recruits and their families seeking NCAA and post secondary opportunity.

Upon review by league president Bill Chow it has been decided that Klippers D-man Taylor Derynck will serve a 1 game suspension with Stars players Troy Gerein (5 games), Connor Manegre (5 games), Connor McIntosh (2 games), Keith Anderson (2 games) and coach Brandon Heck (3 games, $1,500 fine) all cited for their roles in the debacle.

The win is huge for the Klippers who are in the midst of a 10 game stretch in which they have played or will play teams with north of 10 wins exclusively; namely Melfort, Humboldt, Battleford, Weyburn, and Notre Dame.

Mark on your calendars the 4th of November as the rematch between the Olympic Buildings Division rivals in what should be an excellent hockey game.

Saturday, November the 4th vs Battleford will be “First Responder Appreciation Night” with special guests from Kindersley and area Police, Fire and EMS on hand.

Once again, we are proud to offer a GUARANTEED 50/50 take home of $1,000 thanks to the generosity of Ron and Brandi Cales at PANAGO PIZZA.
